Suzanne Collins began her career in 1991 writing for children’s television, contributing to Nickelodeon shows like Clarissa Explains It All, The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo, Little Bear, and Oswald. She later became Head Writer for Clifford’s Puppy Days and freelanced for Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! Her transition to children’s books began after meeting author James Proimos while working on Generation O!

Inspired by imagining a modern twist on Alice in Wonderland, she wrote Gregor the Overlander, the first book in The Underland Chronicles, a bestselling fantasy series published in 21 languages. Her next series, The Hunger Games, became a global phenomenon, spanning five books, selling in 55 languages, and spending years on bestseller lists. The film adaptations have earned over $3.3 billion worldwide, with Collins serving as Executive Producer on all six movies.

She has also written picture books, including When Charlie McButton Lost Power and the autobiographical Year of the Jungle. Collins has received major honors such as the TIME 100, Entertainment Weekly’s Entertainers of the Year, and the Authors Guild Award for Distinguished Service. She is a nominee for the 2026 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Her books have sold over 100 million copies worldwide.
